Pádraig Standún
Pádraig Standún was born in Ballydavock, Co. Mayo, in 1946 and was ordained at Maynooth. A well-known writer, activist and priest, he is best known for his novels, Súil le Breith (1983), which he translated as Lovers (1983), Cion Mná (1993) - a novel of lesbian love, translated by himself as A Woman’s Love (1994) - Stigmata (1995) and Saoire (1997). Taibhdhearc na Gaillimhe produced a stage version of Stigmata in 1996. Bob Quinn based his film, Budawanny (1987) on the novel Súil le Breith. Díbirt Dé (2007) is his latest novel. Standún spent time as a priest in Carraroe and the Aran Islands and in Tourmakeady, Co. Mayo.
