Hilde Domin
1909 - 2006
Hilde Domin was born in Cologne, Germany, and studied law, philosophy, and national economics. She finished her degree in Florence, and after the Nazis came to power in Germany in 1933, she and her husband moved first to England, then to Santo Domingo in the Carribean. After 22 years in exile, they returned to Germany. Hilde Domin is considered one of the most important female poets of the German post-war era. Her poetry has been translated into many different languages and she has won numerous literary awards for her writing.
