This novella, originally published in Nocturnes, sees the return of Charlie Parker, the former policeman and troubled hero of Connolly's novels. The photograph of a little girl turns up on the steps of an abandoned house once occupied by an infamous killer, John Grady. Its present owner, the father of Grady's last victim, seeks Parker's help to find the unknown girl and prevent what he fears will be her murder.
