Rebecca Rafferty is a slightly awkward - in other words normal - fourteen-year-old teenager living in Dublin. To her horror, her mother, a best-selling author, tries her hand at a novel for teenagers, creating a pathetic main character who everybody assumes is based on Rebecca. Needless to say, Rebecca is embarrassed and anxious to change this misconception. Written in the form of a diary, the book allows her to tell who she really is in her own wry tone. In her daily records, Rebecca chronicles her crush on Paperboy, her troubles with bullies in school, and the excitement of starting a band with her best friends Alice and Cass - called Hey, Dollface! - and entering a competition.
