Robert Welch

Robert Welch was born in Cork and was educated at University College Cork where he studied English, Irish, and Music. He later completed a PhD in English at the University of Leeds. He is Emeritus Professor of English in the Faculty of Arts and former Dean of the Faculty at the University of Ulster. Welch was a noted critic and editor and a member of the Royal Irish Academy. He has published several collections of poetry, including Muskerry (1991) and The Blue Formica Table (1999) with Dedalus Press, and The Evergreen Road (2004) with Lagan Press. Welch has also published three works of fiction: The Kilcolman Notebook (1994), followed by the Irish-language Tearmann (1997) and Groundwork (1997).
