John F. Deane
John F. Deane was born on Achill Island and is the founder of Poetry Ireland, the National Poetry Society, and Poetry Ireland Review. He established the Dedalus Press in 1985 and has published several collections of poetry, the latest being The Instruments of Art (2005). His most recent collection of stories is The Heather Fields and Other Stories and another volume of poetry, A Little Book of Hours, is forthcoming. John F. Deane has won the O'Shaughnessy Award for Irish Poetry, the Marten Toonder Award for Literature and is a member of Aosdána. He was elected Secretary-General of the European Academy of Poetry in 1996, and, in 2007, Deane was made a Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres.
