Ian McDonald

1960 -

Ian McDonald was born in Manchester and moved to Belfast in 1965 where he still lives. He is a highly prolific science fiction writer and has received numerous awards, including the Philip K. Dick Award for King of Morning, Queen of Day in 1991 and the British Science Fiction Award for Hearts, Hands and Voices the following year. His first novel, Desolation Road, was published in 1988 and was a collection of short stories, Empire Dreams. McDonlad's novel The Dervish House was shortlisted for the Arthur C. Clarke Award in 2011 and won the British Science Fiction Association Award and the John W. Campbell Memorial Award in the same year.
