Dermot Healy
Dermot Healy was born in Finea, Co. Westmeath. His short stories are collected in Banished Misfortune and his novels include Fighting with Shadows, A Goat's Song and Sudden Times. A memoir, The Bend for Home, was published in 1996. Healy has also written and directed several plays, including The Long Swim, On Broken Wings, Mister Staines and Women to the Left, Men to the Right, which was staged at the Abeey Theatre in 2001. His poetry collections include The Ballyconnel Colours (1993), What the Hammer (1998) and The Reed Bed (2001).
A member of Aosdána, Dermot Healy lives in Ballyconnell, Co. Sligo.
