Brendan O'Carroll

1955 -

Brendan O'Carroll is a well-known author, actor, director script-writer, playwright and stand-up comedian. The youngest of eleven children, O'Carroll was born in Dublin's inner-city. His mother, Maureen, was a Labour TD and inspired his hugely successful radio programme Mrs Brown's Boys. Its protagonist, Agnes Brown, widowed mother of seven children, became the central character in O'Carroll's trilogy, The Mammy, published in 1994, The Chisellers (1995) and The Granny (1996). All three novels have been number one bestsellers and the first was adapted for cinema by Anjelica Huston who starred as Mrs Brown.
