Arja Kajermo
1949 -
Finnish cartoonist Arja Kajermo came to Ireland in the 1970s as an au pair. She began drawing cartoons for In Dublin magazine and illustrated the Irish Women's Diary for the now defunct feminist publishing house Attic Press. Art had always been a central, if secret, part of her life.
Kajermo's characters are influenced by dreams, myths, and folk and fairy tales. For them, there is a world beyond what is seen and seeable. The illustrations - with striking contrasts of light, shade and shadow - beautifully reflect the emotions and themes of her works.
The Iron Age is her first novel.
